Ashish Thusoo and Joydeep Sen Sarma, who built and ran Facebook's data service, started Qubole in 2011. The start-up is a big-data-as-a-service firm that helps companies sift through and benefit from the immense amount of customer data they collect every day.
Building out an infrastructure to support a big-data initiative is time-consuming, expensive and complicated. That's where Qubole comes in. The Mountain View, California-based company claims to have the only self-service big-data platform that manages every aspect of analyzing data in the cloud simply and offers customers the ability to scale its product as needed without having to invest the time and resources into maintaining the hardware.
