Jim is the Founder and CEO of Breyer Capital, a global venture capital firm. Jim has been a lead/co-lead investor in over 40 highly successful companies, several which have returned over 100 times cost and over a dozen more which have returned over 10 times cost.


Jim has a deep interest in AI and human- assisted intelligence, and he is actively investing in this space. Jim also has a lengthy track record of investing in China and is a longtime partner of IDG Capital, a premier venture capital firm based in Beijing. In addition, Breyer Capital is a major limited partner in IDG Capital Funds and Jim currently holds its leading outside strategic advisory role.


Jim serves on the boards of Blackstone and 21st Century Fox. Previously, he was a long-time Board Member of Facebook (where he led the first institutional venture round in April, 2005), Etsy, Legendary, Marvel Entertainment, Wal-Mart, Dell, Inc. and many others.


Jim is passionate about philanthropy and applying innovation models to areas such as education, the arts, and environmental sustainability. Jim is a Fellow of Harvard Corporation, Harvard University's senior governing board, a member of Harvard Business School's Board of Dean's Advisors, Chairman of the Advisory Board at the Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management, and a founding member of the Dean's Advisory Board at Stanford's School of Engineering. Jim is also a longtime Trustee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA).
