Sonia Gardner is president, managing partner and co-founder of Avenue Capital Group, a global alternative investment manager with more than $10 billion in assets under management. Avenue Capital focuses on distressed and undervalued debt and equity in the United States, Europe and Asia, with headquarters in New York and 11 offices across the globe.

Gardner is the partner in charge of managing the firm, and distressed investing has been the focus of her professional career over the last 29 years. Gardner also co-founded Amroc Investments, a boutique distressed brokerage firm, where she was a senior portfolio manager responsible for investing the partners' capital. She was the recipient of the 100 Women in Hedge Funds' 2008 Industry Leadership Award, where she now serves as the global chair of the board of directors. She is also a member of the board of trustees of The Mount Sinai Medical Center.

Gardner received a BA with honors in philosophy from Clark University and a JD from the Cardozo School of Law.
