PRO Talks: Chuck Royce on long-term investing, his favorite stocks

Chuck Royce shared his views on the market and his favorite stock picks and in an exclusive interview for CNBC PRO with Mike Santoli.

On his investment philosophy: "We do it in the very old fashioned way. We're looking for companies that we can take a very long term view on," Royce said. "We're trying to identify those characteristics that will enable the company to sustain whatever advantages they appear to have at the moment."

On favorite financial picks: "Financials are a fascinating, very broad area with lots of change, lots of innovation. We've liked some of the alternative space … like a KKR, Ares is one of our favorites," he said.

Royce is chairman of Royce & Associates, a small-cap specialist investment management firm with nearly $18 billion in assets which he founded in 1972.
